How many covers do you need.
Usually it's enough to have 4 as the minimum, while 6 would be most convenient. It depends on how often you do laundry. One cover maybe reused again until it gets soiled or get dirty.

Taking care of velcro/aplix closured diapers.
When you wash or dry diapers or cover with velcro/aplix, turn them inside out and fasten to protect closures. Never use any fabric softeners with diaper. Fabric softener makes them less absorbent. Also never use chlorine bleach when wash diapers. Instead you can use Oxy-clean or distilled vinegar if you have stain you want to get rid of.

How many diapers do you need.
It's really depends on how often they will be washed. Every other day, 2 times in a week...Smaller baby use more diapers then older. So count on having 10-15 diaper changes for infants and 7-10 for older kids. Then just multiply on amount of days you will collect them before you wash them.
In this case one size diapers are very helpful, since you can use the same diapers thru all diapering ages. This diapers grow as your baby grows and can be reused for next baby as well.

Washing Diapers at Home.
Washing diapers is easy as doing rest of your laundry. Some people have a fear about it, that coming from those old grandma's days diapers. But everything changes and at now days it is very easy.
Here is how you do it:
Collect wet diapers in a diaper pail or bucket with air tight lid. Rinse soiled diapers first before put into diaper pail. A this point flushable or non flushable diaper liner helps to eliminate poopy cleaning. Make sure to close all velcro/aplix.

Put all the diapers to washing mashine and run soak cycle with cold water without adding soap.

Then wash in hot water with high water level on normal or heavy duty cycle. Add a half or even qourter of regular amount of soap. It's recommended to use soap without perfume and phosphates. Also never use chlorine bleach. it will make diapers to worn out so much faster. You might use non chlorine bleach sometimes instead. On heavy stains you can use a little bet of Oxy-Clean, put it directly on stains before washing.

Rinse twice in cold water. Make sure that water is clean from soap. Adding 1/4 to 1/2 cup of distilled vinegar help to prevent ammonia buildup.

Dry diapers in dryer on hot or outside on a sun.

If diaper leaks...
Make sure the diaper is completely covered with diaper cover.

If leakage is around the leg openings, and diaper itself is not really wet. Not proper fit of diaper or cover can cause it. Make sure you use a right size of diaper or cover. To big or to small can be a reason.

If diaper is wet through out. Maybe you need to change diaper more often. Some babies are heavy wetters, so you have to count on this too.

What is wet bag for?
Wet-bag is for when you go out makes taking cloth diapers along easy! A wet-bag is a waterproof bag with a zipper that you can stick in your diaper bag and use to store your dirty diapers while out. Just toss it in your pail when you get home and wash the wet-bag along with your diapers on wash day.

 Diaper liners.
Diaper liner is a piece of thin fleece lined inside of diaper next to baby's skin. It helps to clean diaper from poop much easier, as you just shake it out to toilet from liner. There are two types of liners, washable and flushable. Washable it's usualy a strip of thin fleece. they are washed together with all diapers. Flushable are made of biodegradable fibers and can be flushed into a toilet (though it is not recommended if you have septic tank). Some brands of flushable liners even can be washed with all diapers couple of times and reused. As unexspensive alternative you can use paper towels "Viva". They are strong enough to keep poop and yet very soft to skin.

 Stripping diapers.
If diapers begin to smell funky, or do not absorb well enough, or accidently were washed with fabric softener, if you have hard well water or used diaper rush cream without liner - diapers will need to be stripped.
There are different technics to do that, depending on reason.
